— Detectives with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office are investigating the theft of four horses from a property in Osteen, and authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
The stolen horses are identified as Slater (8 years old), R Chism (13), Snoop (19), and Gratian Hanover (13). Photos of Gratian Hanover and Snoop have been released to the public to aid in the search. Investigators say the horses were taken under suspicious circumstances, and the case has quickly become a priority for the Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s detectives are pursuing multiple leads and working closely with state and local partners, including the Florida Department of Agriculture, to track down the animals. The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the wellbeing of the horses is at the center of the investigation, and every effort is being made to ensure their safe return.
In a strong message directed at the suspects, the Sheriff’s Office warned that capture is inevitable.
“It’s only a matter of time before you’re caught,” the statement read. “Your best course of action is to make sure no harm comes to these horses. It doesn’t matter where you go or how you try to cover your tracks—you’re going to get caught. And the consequences will be a whole lot worse if the horses were harmed.”
The theft has rattled the Osteen community, where horses are not only valued companions but also part of the area’s agricultural and recreational life. Residents have expressed concern and outrage, and many are rallying to support the investigation by sharing information and keeping watch for suspicious activity.
Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of the theft or the whereabouts of the horses to come forward. Tips can be directed to Det. Bartzer at MBartzer@volusiasheriff.gov, by calling 386-860-7030, or by contacting Central Dispatch at 386-248-1777. Callers may remain anonymous, but officials stress that the $10,000 reward will only be issued for information that directly leads to the arrest of those responsible.
The Sheriff’s Office reiterated that harming the animals would significantly worsen the consequences for the suspects once apprehended. Investigators remain confident that with community support and interagency cooperation, the horses will be found and the individuals behind the theft will face justice.
